With so many wired and wireless devices now requiring an internet connection, your computer network needs to be fast, secure and reliable. I install and diagnose Wi-Fi systems, broadband and networks on-site at your home or small business.
Wi-Fi installation and troubleshooting. Multi-Point Mesh Wi-Fi systems installed. Wi-Fi site surveys. Wi-Fi signal extenders
Small business and home networks installed. Switch and router setup. Computers, printers and AV equipment networked
Broadband diagnosis and speed tests. New routers configured and installed. 4G mobile broadband routers. Router upgrades.
If you need help with Wi-Fi signal range for your home or small business please get in touch.
To get the best Wi-Fi signal in most areas of a property it is important to choose the right Wi-Fi system and router. With the advance of technology and new Wi-Fi standards there’s a growing range of products to choose from. Usually I will suggest a site survey to initially assess the area and then explore what options will likely give the best performance.
Every property is different, so a site survey can help identify the weak zones and calculate the most appropriate equipment for the range required
One of the best advances in Wi-Fi technology is called mesh networks. These are small units that can be strategically placed around your home to extend the Wi-Fi signal. Mesh networks are far more intelligent than the older style Wi-Fi extenders or repeaters as they broadcast a single network name and will try to encourage a device to use the closest Wi-Fi point with the strongest signal. They don't require ethernet cabling back to the main router – a huge benefit for a typical home installation.
I supply and fit a range of mesh Wi-Fi equipment and there are some example prices below. These are high quality systems with good signal range and support the “AX” Wi-Fi 6 standard. It includes a built-in router too so this is a complete system that can cope with the growing number of Wi-Fi devices as well as intensive tasks like ultra high definition TV streaming. The equipment is small and sleek so will easily blend in with your decor – there are no ugly aerials on display!

A next generation smart router that continually monitors the internet performance you receive from your provider. A firewall to keep your network safe and secure that can automatically block known sources of malware. Fast Wi-Fi 7 wireless, A 10 Gigabit WAN port, VPN server, traffic analysis and guest/hotspot networks.
This is certainly not your average router and yet all these features are included with no additional subscription fees.
A small and very sleek, high performance 7 mesh unit to extend coverage while still providing a fast wireless link to the router. A huge 5 Gbps of combined data throughput and support for up to 300 connected devices.
PREMIUM DSL MODEM INCLUDED
An often overlooked yet crucial part of the system, this is a high quality modem that is fully tested and approved for use with UK DSL networks.
Although a Mesh Wi-Fi system is a very popular and convenient option, it is not usually the right choice if you have “CAT5” or “CAT6” ethernet cabling available. In fact, the majority of my installation work involves creating custom Wi-Fi solutions, where wired access points are used. Sometimes these can be joined with mesh access points to to create a hybrid system.
Do you have fibre broadband cabled directly to your house? With typical internet speeds of 300-1000 Mbps and very low latency, fibre to premises (FTTP) internet connections are a revelation but can also present a problem in distributing all that speed to all the required areas. Book a Wi-Fi survey to find out the best system for you.
Do you have a small office and need a combined router and Wi-Fi system that offers the security and performance of far more expensive “enterprise” level equipment? Would you like all this for a fixed price? Please ask about small business routers for more information.
Do you need a backup internet connection in case your main one fails or is your main fixed line broadband so bad that you want to explore alternative options? 4G, 5G and Satellite services like Starlink can provide much faster services and in some cases will genuinely be the only option. I can help with assessing broadband options for your location and also supply dual internet routers that can connect to two internet services simultaneously.
Wi-Fi has become an essential part of modern life, but knowing when to switch off is important too!
Although the term 'Wi-Fi" now gets used to describe all aspects of an internet connection and network, there's much more to it than just installing some additional Wi-Fi points or extenders for better signal. Many people assume that they just have to put up with whatever router is issued by their service provider, but there are often instant benefits to be gained with better equipment that has been properly configured and customised to your requirements.
If you need help setting up some network equipment then get in touch. I can help setup PC’s, Mac’s, routers, switches, cabling, printers and most other types of networked equipment.
Many larger properties now have structured CAT6 cabling installed as part of the build and I can help setup up and connect your equipment. I can also help work out what network cabling and Wi-Fi requirement you may need if you are planning to renovate or are building a new property or extension.
The "new normal" has evolved and has resulted in a permanent switch for many, so the need for a solid and reliable internet connection has never been greater.
I can install robust business grade routers and Wi-Fi points that automatically allocates bandwidth so everyone gets an equal share - particularly useful for when TV streaming and business conference calls are happening at the same time!
Usually yes! Wi-Fi speed degrades as the signal weakens, so a decent Wi-Fi system will help make the most of the precious little bandwidth throughout the property. It will also mean that you will be in a position to take full advantage of better speeds if your broadband eventually gets upgraded. Also note that in some situations a mobile 4G connection can be setup to boost or replace landline internet.
The best option in terms of speed is usually an ethernet cable, but often this just isn't possible or is far too difficult and disruptive to fit retrospectively. In general I only take on very small cabling jobs, but depending on the distances involved it's often possible to fit a Wi-Fi bridge, a Wi-Fi mesh or some other form of internet connection. Every setup is slightly different though, so please book a network survey so that all the options can be assessed.
Most of the time this is perfectly fine, but if your broadband service is via the BT ADSL/VDSL network and the router is also acting as a modem then it needs to be of the correct specification and approved for connecting to the Openreach network. All of the equipment I supply has this approval. If your internet provider is Sky or you have Virgin cable broadband then there are some other considerations which I can explain to you.
No I would usually advise against this as the older style Wi-Fi repeaters and boosters are just not as reliable or as fast as a proper modern mesh system.
It varies per installation and I’m always testing new products at different price points, but I most frequently install networking equipment by Draytek, Aruba and Ubiquiti.
This can seem like a convenient option and it's easy to see why internet providers are keen to upsell this along with a bewildering selection of other packages, but it’s still unlikely to be adequate for larger houses or just houses that are more difficult to cover with good signal. You would usually have to install and setup the equipment yourself plus it means you are locked to your internet provider as the equipment wont typically work with other services.
Then there's the cost. Be under no illusion, the increased monthly charges and annual price increases over the longer term will far exceed the value of the Wi-Fi equipment provided.
The equipment and service I offer doesn’t have any of these limitations. It's a premium brand that's yours to own. It will work with any provider and there are no complex monthly subscriptions or hidden extra charges to worry about.
