All types of non-warranty Apple Mac hardware repairs are undertaken subject to parts availability. I repair iMac’s, Macbooks, Mac pro’s and Mac Mini’s.
I frequently repair and upgrade the iMac range of computers and due to the size, shape and weight of these machines a call-out service is ideal as it saves you the bother of transporting it.
Is your mac getting old and now starting to run a bit slow? Not quite ready to buy a new one? You may be pleasantly surprised at the upgrade options available for a fraction of the price of a new machine. If your machine is under 7 years old and currently runs OS X 10.8 or above, there’s a good chance it can be upgraded cost effectively.
A solid-state drive (SSD) upgrade for iMac, Macbook and Mac Mini is possibly the best upgrade you can do and will usually transform the speed of your Mac. These type of hard drives are faster, cooler and quieter than traditional mechanical hard drives which can even help extend battery life on older Macbooks. Please get in touch for a quote.
If you have a Mac that will no longer switch on or start up then I can help recover the data and transfer it to a new machine. For more serious hard drive issues I offer two further levels of data recovery
For situations where the hard drive is still mostly accessible then specialist software can sometimes be used to extract the data. This is then transferred to either a working machine or I can replace the hard drive and fix the existing machine.
For situations where the hard drive is either completely dead, liquid damaged, fire damaged or has any other type of more serious internal fault I can refer the job to a data recovery specialist. This can usually be offered with free initial analysis
I can help with Mac OS and application upgrades as well as fixing software that isn’t working correctly or is generating errors. Email accounts are one area that seem to require a lot of assistance and I can offer help with Apple Mail, Microsoft Outlook and some of the other Mac email clients. You may also have a windows application that you would like to continue using on the Mac and there are a couple of ways you can approach this – each with it’s own set of advantages and disadvantages.
If your Mac has several minor issues and generally isn’t performing as well as it once did then I also offer a health-check service. This involves a number of hardware and software diagnostic checks and at the end you will be given a summary of any outstanding issues along with my recommendations. I will also usually suggest a health-check when there is evidence of malware or adware infection. A standard mac health-check takes 1 hour to complete so will be charged at a standard call-out rate.
Call-out charge for faults and repairs within the coverage area and includes up to 1 hour of labour
On-site rate after the first hour of call-out has been used. This is charged in 30 minute increments.
Off-site labour rate per hour e.g. workshop repairs, remote tech support by email, telephone or screen sharing.
It completely depends on the fault and the availability and price of the replacement parts. Unless otherwise stated the initial price for all repair work is £85 and this will either cover the standard 1 hour call-out charge or in cases where the machine is taken away it will cover the diagnostic fee. After the fault is diagnosed a full price for the repair will be provided. I cannot offer a no-fix, no-fee service, but I will give an honest opinion wether I think a machine is worth repairing or not.
I cover an approximate 20 mile radius of Godalming, Surrey. Further distances can be covered by prior arrangement and will invove a slightly higher call-out fee.
Hardware repairs average 2-3 days turnaround, but it completely depends on parts availability, the nature of the fault as well as my current workload. Software repairs can often be done on-site so will usually be quicker.
I operate solely as a mobile service so cannot offer any facility for you to drop-off equipment to me. It would make no difference to the overall repair time or cost. I also prefer to collect equipment as I have the necessary protective bags for safe transport.
Unfortunately No. For hardware repairs I will usually only look at out of warranty equipment and the repair is determined by parts availability. Some parts are very easy to obtain but others are getting rare. I do look at most types of software repairs and faults though.
Yes certainly, in fact this is a very common iMac upgrade that I have performed many times. Please get in touch with the serial number of the iMac and the capacity of the SSD & RAM required using the contact form and I will provide a price.
Yes, certainly. Please make a booking online for a health-check
No, sorry! I'm a computer guy through and through and although I see all the great benefits of using iPhones and iPads, repairing them is a different skill set.
